description

Launched in October 2020 through a Public-Private-Youth Partnership (PPYP), the One Million Opportunities (1MiO) initiative is a collaborative effort of UNICEF, young people, governments, the private sector, and civil society. Its digital platform aims to create one million opportunities for skills development, apprenticeship, internship, employment, and civic participation for vulnerable youth aged 14-29. Part of the global Generation Unlimited (GenU) coalition, launched at the UN General Assembly in September 2018, 1MiO operates in 89 countries. By 2023, 1MiO has become Brazil's largest partnership for adolescent and youth inclusion in decent work, generating 512,870 opportunities, including 186,454 for skills development and 326,416 for employment. The 1MiO network comprises the Federal Government, 170 large companies, 1,834 municipalities, 8 urban centers, 7 states, and 35 social organizations, all pivotal in enabling skills development and employment opportunities.

1MiO's strategy with the private sector promotes cultural changes within companies to better welcome, retain, and develop vulnerable youth. It focuses on placing young people aged 14-29 in apprenticeships, internships, and formal employment. The initiative also trains youth in foundational, job-specific, transferable, digital, and entrepreneurial skills through its platform and partnerships.

The connection of youth in Brazil is facilitated through two main strategies: the Opportunities Mutirão - A Passport to the Future challenge for UNICEF Seal municipalities, and the #UNICEFCityAgenda, ensuring every child and adolescent is enrolled in school, has access to professional training, protection services against violence, and full health and well-being.
