What is it?

This policy paper aims to improve the living and working conditions of young Ethiopian smallholder farmers. It establishes the agriculture sector as an attractive one that for young Ethiopians growing up in rural areas, and highlights the jobs creation potential applications of the country's growing tech sector.


- In 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands asked its student think tank to conduct research on the future of work for young smallholder farmers in Ethiopia. - The report outlines the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) around four technological developments that could impact young Ethiopian smallholder farmers in the near future. - The four technological developments are mechanization, online platforms, big data, and artificial intelligence.
