More than half of the world’s population is now online. Africa has experienced the fastest growth: the percentage of people that use the internet has increased from 2.1% in 2005 to 24.4% in 2018. The recent Transform Africa Summit, powered by the Smart Africa Alliance, aimed to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development through affordable access to the internet and the use of information and communication technologies.
