Social practice for youth employability in China

Active

Within three years, this commitment intends to contribute to SDG8 by assisting at least 500 young people in career development through implementing education programs for social practice, developing knowledge products, and creating job opportunities. It also strives to bridge the gap between colleges, businesses, and the public sectors by creating a consensus on promoting youth's employability. The long-term objective is to construct a textbook on social practice that is tailored to the Chinese context for vocational training and education, as well as to provide a platform to provide jobs for youth based on local political, economic, and cultural aspects.

Key Highlight On Guiding Principle

In line with the involvement of organizations representing the interests of young people, we oragnize meetings to potential partners, to start conversations for collaboration on the extracurriculum development. We emphasize the importance of hands-on inquiry based learning activities to the youth desire on entrepreneurship and career development. Motivation matters to employment. We have potential partnerships with 12 organizations through our proposals and efforts.

In line with expanding investment for the quality education and skill development, we did document analysis and interviews with experts and peers for seeking opportunities on education investment. Through educational social practice activities, we combine communities, educational institutions, schools, studios and companies together. This provide unique perspective for educators and businessmen to think and reflect on quality education for the young. We insist on students-centered education in our workshops, webinars and discussions, and this provides an opportunity for the young to have their voice been heard.

description

SDG8 will be the focus of social practice education efforts for Chinese youth through this commitment. This initiative will invite graduates to create social practice programs based on SDG indicators. This provides direct employment opportunities for young people. The commitment will be delivered through organized field trips to carry out social practice education projects, to universities to learn about the expectations of the youth, to businesses to gain the knowledge of their demands for employability, and to local governments to broaden the impact of this initiative. For the collaboration with private sectors, this initiative will specifically collaborate with enterprises in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and the Greater Bay Area to establish bases for social practice education, with the goal of conducting seasonal thematic activities as well as exploring sustainable models of vocational training and education to improve youth’s employability. For the partnership with public institutions, this program will, for example, cooperate with the National Palace Museum in Beijing to offer social practice education workshops on tourism, with an emphasis on sustainable culture, ecology, and business. The initiative will create employment opportunities in interdisciplinary fields such as sustainable ecological tourism and commercial cultural products.

Challenges faced in implementation

We face challenges such as the youth's motivation, the youth's time limitation, financing and collabrations with business companies and public sectors. We tacled youth's motivation issue by conversations, to connect knowledge with employability, to make them them know careers, economics, and job opportunities are in line with knowledge. For the youth's time limitation, we work on our project design to fit for the youth, and the new schedule is on experimental phase. For the financing and collaborations, we are still working on them.
