Improve youth’s confidence and leadership in China

The overall goal is to improve youth confidence and leadership skills through speech training and talk events. Our targeted group are students who are afraid of or failed to express themselves which made them miss good opportunities and students who want to improve their leadership skills. The geographic scope of the commitment is China. The lead entity is Shengma and our main source of financing will be from sponsorship and sales.

Achievement At Glance

  1. We held 23 online sharing sessions around SOSAI values to bring all-round cognitive enhancement to young people during the epidemic closure, helping students learn more about society and life, develop essential life skills, open their horizons and expand their worldview. Cumulatively, more than 30,000 people watched it online, and many youths said the sharing inspired them and opened up their confidence power
  2. CXO101 program. We organized 3 corporate visits to take students on company tours and meet with executive teams, and we invited experts in the field to share lectures on business writing, creative thinking etc.. We have covered over 100 students.
  3. Cooperate with Shanghai Pudong SciFi Association, organized 10 Science Fiction Creators Salon, 7 Metaverse and Digital Economy Salon Series, 5 Science Fiction Writing Lecture Series.
     
  4. Cooperate with Lida University organized 10 career training for students

description

A lot of students in China lack the ability of communicate, which may prevent them from accessing decent jobs. Many students aspire to achieve their goals but require more assertiveness and confidence in order to support their aspirations. Through practicing public speaking, they can re-examine their lives, find their own values and learn how to confidently stand on the stage.

We will work with different schools who will be paying and sponsoring all the materials. The teachers and career consultants are experienced and carefully selected. We mainly train students on speech and communication related skills.

We believe speech and communication skills are crucial for youth’s career development, daily life, and business initiatives.  Learning about speech is not only about the techniques, but also about the soft skills and the experience gained through this process.

Deliverables and links to SDG targets

  • 70 young people trained in relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, ICT skills and soft skills

    8.6 By 2020, substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education or training

    Youth who participated in our TEDx events, including the form of event planning, photography, writing, technical support, etc, can get our authorized TEDx volunteer certificate, which can be useful when they apply for college or jobs. They could also have the chance of getting recommendation letters from our event curator.

    We work with different schools to provide speech courses that help with students’ communication skills and confidence-building. We will help students to excavate their value, create their own talks and at the end, each student will have the chance to stand on the stage and tell his or her story.

    We work with schools to provide career counseling courses each week. Students can have the chance to hear from our experienced advisers and teachers. Our consultant will provide advice based on the students’ situation.

Challenges faced in implementation

The biggest challenge is the uncertainty of the epidemic. Especially in 2022, Shanghai underwent a 2-month closure and control. The strict epidemic control measures also lasted for a whole year, which made it almost impossible for us to start offline activities, and TEDx events were not held as scheduled, most of the work was done online, and many plans could not be practiced as scheduled.
