Garden of Hope Foundation Commits to Support Entrepreneurship among Under-served Youth in Kenya

(Kenya) Garden of Hope Foundation (GoHF), is a non-profit organization that is passionate about creating sustainable socio-economic opportunities for youth, women, and children through leadership, entrepreneurship and mentorship. GoHF has pledged a commitment to Decent Jobs for Youth to equip young people with business and entrepreneurship skills, and facilitate youth’s access to finance. The commitment aims to benefit 2,000 youth by 2024, specifically  youth from rural communities and informal settlements in Kenya.

In light of the COVID-19 crisis, young people need urgent support for continuing their education and sustaining their livelihoods.  GoHF has been working at the frontlines and supporting young people through virtual training, mentorship, and support for enterprise development, GoHF works with youth who have graduated from school and those who have dropped out of school and are in need of skills development and business support. Young people are  matched with relevant internship and job placement opportunities after the training. In addition, GoHF intends to establish a micro-enterprise fund to support youth start-ups.

Their commitment will boost action and impact on Youth Entrepreneurship and Self-employment. The commitment is supported by public-private partnerships to provide access to finance and mentorship for young entrepreneurs. It features an inclusive approach for supporting young people in Kenya regardless of their backgrounds.

The Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Decent Jobs for Youth was launched in 2016 as a UN system-wide effort, focusing on the youth employment challenge that is central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It has emerged as a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that brings together governments, social partners, the private sector, youth and civil society organizations, and others. They work together to share knowledge, leverage resources and take action at country and regional level, to support young people in accessing decent work and productive employment worldwide.
