Tech education for job readiness of migrant youth

ReDI School upskills youth with a forced migration background in tech skills to accelerate their integration into the German job market. We offer free tech courses, career counselling, soft skills training and mentorship, as well as access to a network of professionals and partners. In addition, we are committed to gender equality and to the empowerment of female newcomers - and therefore have a minimum of 50% female participation across our schools.

The students are very happy to participate in the program and the majority of our students (75%) are moving on in to further higher education and jobs after leaving the school.

The program is offered on a 4-month semester basis (with 2 semesters running each year: Sept-Dec and Mar-June). For each semester, 50 hours of project-based tech skills training will be offered. The content is either digital literacy at 2 different levels (a third level is planned for Fall 2022) or tech proficiency (with 3 different levels). Some of the specific contents include: performing basic tasks on a computer (i.e. creating, opening, and saving folders and files); performing basic writing functions; getting started with internet browsing: creating and using an email account; getting started with Google Tools; intermediate-use of the MS Office package; basics of Cybersecurity Design (Graphic Design, UX/UI); intro to Programming (Python, Java): web Development (HTML&CSS, JavaScript, React); cloud Computing (Networking, Cloud, IoT). Additionally, soft skills and career support workshops are offered on topics such as CV-writing, preparing for job interviews, German language for the job market, professional orientation, and access to a mentor offered through 1 on 1 support. Learners are also connected with potential employers through an annual job fair. Each component of the project is co-created with the learners, volunteer teachers, partners, and the ReDI team through regular retrospective sessions involving all stakeholders, continuous feedback gathering, and the constant update of our course content. All of our services are offered completely for free to our learners. The commitment aims to raise young migrants’ awareness about Decent Jobs for Youth and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
