The Institute for Youth Development and Services of the State of Guanajuato (JuventudEsGto) in Mexico joined the UN Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth with the commitment to promote actions that foster youth employability and contribute to promoting decent employment opportunities for young people in Guanajuato.

Global Action Forum on Youth Employment

On May 29, 2023, the Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Mr. Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, will launch JuventudEsGto's commitment to the Decent Jobs for Youth initiative. The announcement will be made in the context of the "First Global Action Forum: Youth with Work." The event will bring together key local and international actors and will feature the presence of the Director of the ILO for Mexico and Cuba, Mr. Pedro Américo Furtado de Oliveira, and the Director of JuventudEsGTO, Mr. Antonio de Jesús Navarro Padilla.

This collaboration will allow for the creation of decent job opportunities for young people in Guanajuato, with a gender and youth equity perspective. It will also enable strong partnerships between government, academic institutions, and the business sector to develop job skills, including international programs and internships, the approach of Labor Linkage Centers, and a training program in social and entrepreneurial skills for young people in Guanajuato.

Main projects for youth employment

  • Labor Linkage Centers: Bringing job opportunities closer to young people, as well as advice and support for their proper job insertion.

  • Guanajuato in the World: Strengthening and developing the skills demanded by the market through partnerships with international business sectors.

  • Juvempresa: Developing and generating an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state of Guanajuato that promotes the development of young people from Guanajuato for their inclusion and permanence, with affirmative actions to promote a business culture with a youth perspective, being distinguished by the "juvempresa" badge.

  • Youth Academy: A virtual platform for the development of social and entrepreneurial skills in young people from Guanajuato.

The commitment from the JuventudEsGto will boost action and impact on three main thematic areas of Decent Jobs  for Youth, including Quality apprenticeships, Transitions to the formal economy, and Youth entrepreneurship and self-employment in support of the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Decent Jobs for Youth was launched in 2016 as a UN system-wide effort, focusing on the youth employment challenge that is central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It has emerged as a global, multi-stakeholder initiative that brings together governments, social partners, the private sector, youth and civil society organizations, and others. They work together to share knowledge, leverage resources and take action at country and regional level, to support young people in accessing decent work and productive employment worldwide.
